The New Year is full of new experiences with friends and family. Often times we all get stuck in a similar routine that makes our norm delve into the pits of the mundane spiral more commonly known as boredom. There are a million ways one could break from the typical day to day routine, but we have decided to break it down into 5 things that you can do to make your New Year the best that it can be!

1. Exercise

Now I know what you're thinking, "really? That is something that everyone tries every year and ends the year with getting fat again" but this could be the year for you! Loving your body is totally in right now but getting healthier is too! So, take a walk, join a gym or get a trainer! I promise you wont regret it!

2. Volunteer

I'm not just telling you this so you can post how good of a person you are on Facebook. Volunteering will not only change up your typical weekend routine. It will allow you to engage with you community and maybe help you meet someone you haven't met yet! Either way, helping a person in need is something that makes us feel good! So get out there and pay it forward!

3. Shop for yourself

Retail therapy is certainly the best therapy not covered by insurance companies. We can all agree on that! As much as it is a good thing to help out another person, Treating yourself once in a while is never a bad thing. Studies show that one new outfit a day keeps the doctor away (or something like that). Truthfully, buying something that you truly want releases endorphins, a chemical that is also released when you exercise, and plays into our innate instant gratification complex. So what are you waiting for, science says you can shop!

4. Make New Food.

Now apart from Prince Spaghetti night, (obviously that cannot be changed) changing up the food that your family eats can expand a palate's horizons and introduce new cultures from around the world right in your home. Getting a new recipe or cook will also teach you how to make something new and exciting.

5. Make a small resolution

We all know the cultural phenomenon that is the New Years Resolution. The massive goal that we want to achieve that in reality, well you probably aren't going to accomplish. So, start small! Pick from the list above or set your own short term goal. A tiny change in any routine can often yield a big result!
