Here at Mercedes-Benz of Shrewsbury, we pride ourselves in carrying vehicles that offer the most advanced safety technology. Mercedes-Benz is always looking to develop the latest features that will keep drivers safe, and this time around they have come up with a safety tool that involves the use of QR codes. We are excited to share with all of you how the system works, right here on our blog.
We often find QR codes in magazine ads or on products. The tiny square bar code can be quickly scanned with a smartphone or tablet, allowing consumers to learn additional information. Never before have we associated this technology with safety in the event of an accident.
Now Mercedes-Benz is using QR codes as a way to provide emergency personnel with easy access to rescue information. These details would otherwise be found on a vehicle's "rescue sheet" which indicates the location of equipment like electric cables, tanks, batteries and airbags. Being able to scan a QR code not only saves time, but it allows rescuers to focus more on safety at a crash scene.
What does this mean for the future? The automaker confirmed that starting this year, all new Mercedes-Benz vehicles would come equipped with two QR stickers that contain safety information. One will be located on the B-pillar, while the other will be on the fuel tank flap on the other side of the vehicle. This will ensure that at least one will be accessible for scanning if an accident occurs.
