It's has been a known fact for quite some time now that Mercedes-Benz and BMW are considered rival brands. Now that Mercedes-Benz is looking to target BMW's Mini division, the rivalry is only about to grow stronger. According to Automobile magazine, the automaker is looking to develop a Mercedes-Benz X-Class lineup of subcompact models. Here are Mercedes-Benz of Shrewsbury we are excited to see this story unfold.
Mercedes-Benz now has access to a flexible shared platform which can be used to build its new model range that will most likely be classified with the" X-Class" naming system. This is all possible because of its partnership with Renault-Nissan. The reason why the automaker can't use the next-gen Smart car platform is because it's not scalable. As for the A-Class platform, cost and complexity of design make this difficult to use as well.
Therefore, the new X-Class will draw its design from the small Renault Captur crossover. If this proves to be successful, we can expect it to be followed up with a Nissan Micra inspired Mercedes-Benz sub B-Class model and subcompact hatchbacks modeled after the Renault Clio. All of which of course will be designed with the distinct Mercedes-Benz style.
A smaller model option within the new Mercedes-Benz lineup could be quite a success considering a compact vehicle is more ideal for congested city driving.
