At the beginning of August, Mercedes unveiled the latest of its Maybach line: the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6. The concept had everyone wondering, including us at Mercedes-Benz of Shrewsbury, if Maybach is ready to make a comeback.

After being inactive for almost 70 years, Maybach was brought back to life in the early 2000s to compete against Bentley and Rolls-Royce. But, the plan was abandoned soon after the resurrection. Now, Maybach has revived again with the help of the most luxury versions of the Mercedes-Benz S-class.

Is this what Mercedes hopes for the future? Only time will tell. In the meantime, let’s have a look at this sleek, fabulous electric coupe.

Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Is a Stunner

You don’t have to be a car lover to see that this Mercedes-Maybach is absolutely breathtaking. The number in the name hints to the car’s length of approximately six meters. The Maybach 6 Concept is nearly two feet longer than a Mercedes S-class coupe and about four inches lower.

The proportions are exaggerated, with a super long hood, a lengthy rear overhang, and a two-plus-two-seat cabin. Mercedes claims that the dimensions are a remembrance of the golden age of aero coupes. And, they are right. The car has, indeed, a classic refinement about it. This vintage vibe is supported by the split backlight, boat tail rear, and the gullwing doors.

The Mercedes-Maybach 6 also comes with 24-inch wheels with see-through color-body inserts. The grille, although very impressive, its purely ornamental. This superb car is electric.

Mercedes-Maybach Is an EV Wonder

The future is electric, and Mercedes seems to be aware of this trend all too well. That’s why it shouldn’t come as a surprise that this bold concept car has four powerful electric engines under the hood. That’s right. Mercedes-Maybach has one engine per wheel, each fed by an 80-kWh battery system located under the floor.

The EV engines produce around 750 horsepower, just enough for the car to hit 60 mph is less than four seconds. The top speed limit is said to be set at 155 mph – not too bad for an electric car.

When it comes to electric vehicles, one of the first questions we here at Mercedes-Benz of Shrewsbury ask is how much it can last. Well, Mercedes says that the car has a driving range of 200 miles. More than that, due to the Combined Charging System and DC quick charging, just as little as a five-minute jolt can give you up to 62 more miles of range. And the best part is that Vision Mercedes-Maybach can be recharged wirelessly.

A High-Tech Interior

The interior of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 is as modern and high-tech as the exterior is classic. Although you can still find two analog indicators atop the steering column, they are overshadowed by the digital display screen that occupies the entire width of the dashboard.

But, that’s not all. Even the windshield itself operates as an enormous head-up display. More than that, it’s controlled through hand gestures.

The seats are covered in white leather, and you will notice rose gold accents on the dash. Instead of a regular carpet, the floor is covered in elm wood, which goes as high as the lower door panels. All these features give Vision Mercedes-Maybach a refined yachting look, as the German automaker suggested.

If you don’t feel like driving, you can activate the autonomous function and let the vehicle take over while you kick back and relax.

Mercedes didn’t say anything on if, or when, they might produce the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6, but they definitely picked the perfect time to introduce such a beautiful car. The EV market is growing, and consumers are willing to look beyond Tesla and co.

The team here at the Mercedes-Benz of Shrewsbury thinks the German automaker outdid itself by creating an electric vehicle that not only looks gorgeous but performs great too. All that’s left to say is that it’s nice to see a new electric car that is as beautiful as any classic model.
