Driver's Log 12.2011

As the New Year approaches, we are taking time to consider how our business had changed and grown in the past year.

One of our successes is the growth we have seen in our service departments. As vehicles have become more technologically advanced, we have seen the increased necessity for specially made tools, brand and model specific computer diagnostics and advanced personnel training.

The Hangover 1965 Mercedes-Benz 220se Convertible

Of the many painful moments in The Hangover, watching the cadre of best men destroy a beautiful 1965 Mercedes-Benz 220SE Convertible over the course of the film was perhaps the worst.

Between Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis bouncing the vehicle off of traffic and the sides of a concrete tunnel and allowing a live tiger to chew on the upholstery, this classic piece of German engineering suffered greatly at the hands of the movie's script. But this is Hollywood, where nothing is as it seems. As it turns out, the film used three convertibles and two coupes chopped to look like convertibles for the filming.

One of the convertibles and one coupe received the raw end of most of the damage, leaving three survivors. The two drop tops were then auctioned off for charity, and now one is up for sale on eBay Motors. According to the seller, this vehicle was used for most of the interior filming, and while its cabin was thoroughly destroyed during the making of the movie, it was restored to its original perfection after shooting wrapped. The car is supposedly in solidly operable - but not concours - condition. Looks like a great driver to us. The minimum bid sits at $85,000 with a $95,000 Buy-It-Now price, meaning you're paying a hefty premium for the car's movie provenance. Head over to eBay Motors as you ponder adding it to your wolf pack.

Mercedes C- and E-Class coupes to get AWD option next year

c-class coupe

4Matic has proven to be a popular feature on various Mercedes-Benz models, especially in U.S. regions that experience four distinct seasons. But while all-wheel-drive is almost a necessary option in the luxury sedan segment, Daimler's C-Class and E-Class coupes have soldiered on only with rear-drive.

According to Car and Driver, that will change for next year. The 4Matic system will reportedly only be offered with the company's 3.5-liter V6, which pumps out 302 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque.

This news could mean changes for the C-Class sedan as well. Currently, 4Matic is only offered with the 3.0-liter V6-equipped C300 sedan, so this could mean that the C350 sedan could also get an AWD option in 2012. That's good news for grip-loving buyers who want more oomph than the modestly powered 228-horsepower C300 can provide.

Oooohh That Smell....of a Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz may be an expert in fine automobiles, but there savvy sensibilities and deft skills extend far beyond the realm of high-horsepower engines and exquisite appointments. Currently, the Mercedes-Benz lineup includes the C-, E-, S-, CL- and CLS- Classes (among many others); fashion wear; eyewear; watches...And, early in 2012, it will include a new men's fragrance.

This perspective has allowed Mercedes-Benz to push beyond the C-Class, beyond the E-Class, even beyond the CLS-Class and purvey exclusive, up-market goods such as watches, eyewear, travel kits, fashion, and more. The latest addition to the Mercedes-Benz lineup is an all-new men…

Mercedes-Benz Plan for the C63 AMG Black Series

This past July, Mercedes-Benz raised the curtain on their fourth Black Series model - the C63 AMG Black Series Coupe.  That's nearly five months Mercedes-Benz of Shrewsbury has been wondering: Will they trick out the C63 AMG sedan with the same fixings?

While Mercedes-Benz has not yet officially confirmed the high-potency variant, recent spy shots document the sleek four-door cavorting around Nurburgring. And, reports suggest that the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series sedan touts the same 510-hp 6.2-liter V8 engine found in the C63 AMG Black Series Coupe. That represents a gain of 59-hp more than the 2012 standard…
